DC to Get "Street Sense," City's First Homeless Newspaper The Christian Science Monitor reports: "...And so this week Washington, D.C., will get its first newspaper written, produced, and distributed by local homeless people. It's called "Street Sense: 'Where the D.C.'s poor and homeless earn and give their two cent' " (or, they hope, "cents" if the typesetting can be fixed in time), and it's due out on the streets this morning. a Posted by: at November 19, 2003 12:08 PMI think that Street Sense makes a lot of sense because it gives the homeless a chance to have pride in them selves knowing that they don't have to depend on anybody to help themselves and that they can do something for themselves. The only thing that keeps a man down in homelessness is when someone says, "You can't do this." But when he believes in himself and finds out that he can do something, that's when he begins to feel better in himself. Then the idea hits him that "I can do it, I could do it the whole time." Give him something, a goal that he can reach for himself. Posted by: Samuel Leon Bullock at December 9, 2003 10:37 AMPost a comment
