The External Affairs Committee was created by Mr. Newman and Mr. Pitts to increase student involvement in local government. The EAC will become a standing committee in 1999.
Taxi Service in Athens
EAC has received a number of complaints
about taxi service in Athens lately. Specifically, students have
complained that the cab services charges arbitrarily, and that the cab
services leave their phones off the hook at night.
1. By law, the driver must show you his
fee schedule, if you ask to see it.
2. By law, the driver must give you a
receipt, if you ask for one.
3. You may ask the dispatcher to give
you a price before you're picked up.
4. By law, the cab companies must operate
24 hours a day.
If you suspect that the cab service is
deliberately not answering the phone, write down the exact time you called.
The police will go to the taxi company,
and check their records.
