Athens Transportation Fee

The student body of the University of Georgia through its elected members of the Student Government Association does hereby resolve:

Whereas,  the Athens Transit System has proposed a significant increase in the    mandatory per student fee paid to the System for providing University    students unlimited access to the Athens Transit System; and,

Whereas,  the Vice President for Student Affairs requested that the Student Government   Association assess the student opinion regarding the continuation of the    relationship with the Athens Transit System and the proposed fee increase; and,

Whereas,  the Student Government Association did initiate meetings with officials of  the   Campus Transit System and the Athens Transit System to better understand the   relationship between the transportation systems and the rationale for the proposed   fee increase; and,

Whereas,  the Student Government Association has met with student leaders, held an open   forum, and discussed these issues at great length in meetings of the Student Life   Committee, all intended to elicit student input and opinion of these matters.

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED THAT:
The Student Government Association of the University of Georgia does hereby recommend that the relationship be continued between the University of Georgia and the Athens Transit System to provide the unlimited access now afforded the student body.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT:
The mandatory fee be a fair and reasonable rate such that when actual student ridership is applied, the rate does not exceed the best fair available to the average Athens Transit passenger.

Recommendation to Improve Campus Safety Through Action in
Changing Campus Lighting

THE STUDENT BODY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA THROUGH ITS ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:

Whereas,  based on the lighting survey conducted by Alex Tobar (University Police),   Keith Barnett (Physical Plant), Rick Rose (Student Affairs), Meredith   Jones (SGA), and Holly Gooding (SGA) on the 29th of October, 1997, the   Academic Affairs Committee of the Student Government Association   recommends the following actions to improve the lighting situation on the   University of Georgia campus.

SGA (10-03)
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

The Student Government Association supports the following actions:
HIGH PRIORITY ACTIONS
? Two post lights needed in area between front entrance of Brumby and parking lot at Brumby- one by bike racks, one at the end on walkway at the bottom of hill.
? Either install wall packs above benches on the South side of the Brumby Rotunda or install key switches to the study rooms and leave those interior lights on all the time with one wall pack installed in center of that wall.
? Four or five pole lights needed along the stairs from Cloverhurst Street down to the Legion Pool parking lot.
? Pole light or wall pack needed outside entrance to Snelling Hall
? Pole light needed by bus stop in front of Plant Sciences Building.
? Due to significant student concern, although not viewed on the lighting survey, the Student Government Association suggests putting lights in the commuter lot in between the West Campus Parking Deck and the tennis courts by Russell Hall.

MIDDLE PRIORITY ACTIONS
? One post light in the island between Brumby and Russell Halls.
? Pole light needed in southeast corner of parking lot on south side of Hardman Hall
? Refocus wall pack on East side of Aderhold to shine on Southern corner of lower parking lot.
? Pole lights needed all along walkway from back of PVAC to the bus stop on East Campus Road.

LOWER PRIORITY ACTIONS
? Three wall packs needed on wall above benches on East side of the Rotunda.
? Pole lights needed under the trees by the Brumby basketball courts.
? Pole light needed in Southern corner of upper parking lot at Aderhold.

In addition, we would like all pampas grass removed from the grounds.  A human being can easily stand hidden in the tall grass.  Places of special concern include the grass at the entrance walkways around Brumby Hall and the walkway connecting PVAC to East Campus Road.

Finally, we hope that Physical Plant will continuously replace lights identified as out.  Those lights found out on the tour include:

? Three pole lights out in front of Science Library (three in a row from the Brooks Drive end)
? Pole light out in lot behind School of Music (second one in from exit in middle island)
? All lights were out in the lot in front of Parking Services Building

SPECIFICATION OF MAJOR ON GRADUATING DIPLOMA

THE STUDENT BODY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA THROUGH ITS ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:

Whereas,  it has been with great interest that the Student Government Association,   on behalf of the University of Georgia student body, has been made   aware of the request to specify the major in addition to degree on the   graduation diploma.

Whereas,  the Student Body of Georgia demands that the major as well as degree be   placed on the diploma.

SGA (10-06)
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The Student Government Association endorses the restructuring that each student have the option to have their major stated on their diploma along with their degree upon graduation from the University.

THE PARKING METERS AT NIGHT RESOLUTION

THE STUDENT BODY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA THROUGH ITS ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:

Whereas,  it has come to the attention of the Student     Government that Athens Clark County has discussed the   possibility of extending the usage of parking meters   into the  evenings and weekends in downtown Athens.

Whereas,  the enforcement of such a plan would cause tremendous          difficulty, expense, and inconvenience not only to the             patrons of downtown Athens, but especially those                   working for businesses downtown who would have to              return to the meters on the hour.

Whereas,  the Student Government Association has also received an         overwhelming mandate from the students stating their                opposition to the proposal through our Senators and               members of the Freshman Board.

SGA (10-07)
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The Student Government Association opposes any Athens-Clarke County plan to extend the use of parking meters into the evenings and weekends in downtown Athens.
