PROPOSAL FOR AMENDMENT TO THE SINGLE-FAMILY
DEFINITION OF ATHENS-CLARKE COUNTY
THE STUDENT BODY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA
THROUGH ITS ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE STUDENT
GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:
Whereas, the students of the University of Georgia are interested in
maintaining the character and quality of single-family
neighborhoods.
Whereas, the students also are interested in obtaining quality housing for
persons attending the University of Georgia.
Whereas, the current enforcement of the Single-Family Definition
proscribes students from living in single-family areas, regardless
of their behavior or living habits.
Whereas, students can coexist with local residents and not adversely affect
the single-family neighborhoods.
Whereas, an improvement could be made to the single-family definition
that would allow persons to live in single-family neighborhoods
as long as they conform to community standards of behavior.
SGA (Bill #11-01)
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The Student Government Association on behalf of the student body, requests
that the Athens-Clarke County Government amend its Single-Family
Definition to allow more than two unrelated persons to live together, and to
enforce standards of neighborhood quality through proscribing unwanted
behaviors rather than classes of people.
