PROPOSAL FOR AMENDMENT TO THE SINGLE-FAMILY DEFINMON OF
ATHENS-CLARKE COUNTY
THE STUDENT BODY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA THROUGH ITS
ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE:
Whereas, the students of the University of Georgia are interested in
maintaining the character and quality of single-family
neighborhoods.
Whereas, the students also are interested in obtaining quality housing for
persons attending the University of Georgia.
Whereas, the current enforcement of the Single-Family Definition
proscribes students from living in single-family areas, regardless of their
behavior or living habits.
Whereas, students can coexist with local residents and not adversely affect
the single-family neighborhoods.
Whereas, an improvement could be made to the single-family definition
that would allow persons to live in single-family neighborhoods
as long as they conform to community standards of behavior.
SGA (BW 011-01)
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The Student Government Association on behalf of the student body, requests that the
Athens-Clarke County Government amend its Single-Family Definition to allow more than
two unrelated persons to live together, and to enforce standards of neighborhood quality
through proscribing unwanted behaviors rather than classes of people.
Furthermore, the Student Government Association requests that a committee be formed,
comprised equally of students, landlords, A-CC Government Officials, and community
leaders; to propose reasonable standards of behavior, and consequences for students and
landlords who violate those standards of behavior in single-family neighborhoods.
