SGA RESOLUTION 5-01

Sponsored by: Richard Martin III

Approved: October 12, 1993

Be it resolved, the Student Government Association ~ condemns the offensive statement contained in the Pi Kappa Phi pledge pamphlet, not the fraternity itself. This statement reflects a low level of appreciation for the multicultural diversity that this university has to offer. We applaud the prompt response to this incident by Interfraternity Council and the university administration. This incident indicates a need for greater understanding, cooperation, and interaction among the races on campus, not simply an increased level of sensitivity. It is our hope that the Greek system on campus, Interfraternity Council, the Black Greek Council, and Panhellenic will act as progressive leaders and address this need through increasing its inter-racial interaction in both community service projects and social functions. Our Greek system is clearly one of the several organizations looked upon for leadership on campus. The actions taken from this point forward will speak much more loudly than words, the Student Government Association is optimistic and enthusiastically looking toward the future.
