TITLE: Resolution Concerning the Escort Van Service

THE STUDENT SENATE AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STUDENT BODY OF
THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:
WHEREAS, the Escort Van Service is one of the most effective safety
services offered to students at the University of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, the Student Government Association was instrumental in creating
and implementing the Escort Van Service in conjunction with
President Knapp and the Campus Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the Student Government Association greatly appreciates
President Knapp's contribution for funding and implementing
the Escort Van Service and his concern for improved campus
safety; and
WHEREAS, the current Escort Van Service is in operation Monday through
Friday from six o'clock in the evening to two o'clock in the
morning, and is in highest demand between the hours of six and
eleven, Monday through Thursday; and
WHEREAS, there has been a tremendous increase in the demand for the
service due to the Jenny Stone homocide and other violent
crimes in Athens, and promotion of the Escort Van Service in
the "Red and Black," University housing, and at Freshman
Orientation; and
WHEREAS, this increase in demand has resulted in the following problems:
