dispatch of the escort van to the time of pick-up, and
2. An increase in the average ride time, and
3. A significant increase in the number of callers who are
asked to call back later, and
4. The Escort Van Service is operating in excess of 57%
beyond the $23,000 allocated to the Campus Police
Department because of the escort van's extended hours
of service, increased van rental and mileage charges,
extended days of operation, and increased wage costs,
all of these problems are defined in an interoffice memorandum to
Campus Police Chief Chuck Horton; and
WHEREAS, the problems previously defined are a result of the great necessity
and the great success of the Escort Van Service;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the student body of the University of
Georgia through its elected members of the Student Senate does hereby recognize the need
to expand and improve the Escort Van service in order to continue to meet the growing
needs of the students of the University of Georgia and to make the University of Georgia
a safer campus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the student body of the University of Georgia agrees
with the Campus Police Department that the best way to improve the Escort Van Service
is through the following changes;
1. The Escort Van Service should reduce the service from two
vans to one van after midnight, Monday through Friday.
2. The Escort Van Service should add a third van from
6: 00 p. m. to 11: 00 p. m., Monday through Thursday only
3. The Escort Van Service should receive an additional
allocation from the President's office to continue the
present level of operations.
4. The Escort Van Service should receive an additional
allocation of $6,000to expand the service to three vans
during the desired hours and days.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Student Body of the University of Georgia strongly
urges President Knapp to continue his commitment to the students of the University of
Georgia and to their safety by implementing these changes.
