SGA RESOLUTION 5-08

TITLE: Resolution Concerning Parking Deck Safety

THE STUDENT SENATE AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STUDENT BODY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:

WHEREAS, a new parking deck is being constructed near the Brumby and Russell residence hall area; and

WHEREAS, the Parking Deck Safety and Security Task Force was formed to research the safety options for the new parking deck; and

WHEREAS, the Student Government Association was asked to appoint a representative to the Task Force; and

WHEREAS, the Task Force concluded that the following recommendations, described in greater detail in the attached memorandum, are necessary to ensure a safe parking deck:

1. User Education

2. Parking Services Staffing

3. UGA Police Support

4. Signage

5. Physical Features

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Student Body of the University of Georgia through its elected members of the Student Senate does hereby express its concern and support for effective safety measured in the newly constructed parking deck; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Student Body of the University of Georgia urges Dr. Douglas, Vice President of Student Affairs, and Dr. Barber, Vice President of Business and Finance, to strongly consider the proposed safety features outlined by the Parking Deck Safety and Security Task Force in its report.
