MINUTES OF SENATE MEETING
SEPTEMBER 19, 1990
CALL TO ORDER
The Student Government Association of the University of Georgia
held a full senate meeting on Wednesday, September 19, 1990 at 9:00
p.m. in Room 139 of the Tate Student Center.
ROLL CALL
Excused absences included Aparne Deshmukh, Kim Marsh and Erin
Ostrow. Unexcused absences included Paul Cleveland, Carol Ann
Whaley and Troy Von Kutzleben. These unexcused absences will not
count against individual senators, as this was the first meeting of
the quarter, and some senators could not be informed of the meeting.
Ill. MINUTES
The minutes from the Senate meeting held on June 5, 1990 were
read to Senate. There were no additions or corrections, and the
minutes stand as read.
I V. OPEN FORUM
A. Neil Thom, a third-year law student, announced an upcoming
benefit concert to be sponsored by the Equal Justice Society.
B. A representative from African-American Power spoke to the
Senate, urging SGA cooperation with the Department of
African-American studies.
V. OFFICER REPORTS
A. PRESIDENT - Heath Garrett
1. Apologized for the lack of communication with Senators during
summer quarter.
2. the Georgia Athletic Association has selected Tom Thomas to
be its 1990 Student board member. He was chosen from the slate
of candidates presented to the GAA by SGA during spring
quarter.
3. During summer quarter, Heath Garrett traveled with Ben
Calhoun and Allen Ginder to Washington, D.C., where they met
with U.S. Representatives Doug Bernard, Newt Gingrich and Ben
Jones.
4. UGA was chosen to host the Fall meeting of the Student
Advisory Council to the Georgia Board of Regents.
5. Two meetings were held with UGA President Charles Knapp
during summer quarter, one concerning the semester feasibility
study, the other concerning student apathy.
