Senate Bill I. Whereas, the Senate of the University of Georgia Student Government Association recognizes the rights to freedom of speech and expression as set forth in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, and is dedicated to the preservation of these freedoms for all people; and

II. Whereas, it is manifest that these freedoms must be exercised in such a manner that their expression does not infringe upon the same rights of others; and

III. Whereas, a public state university must be maintained in a manner consistent with the preservation of these First Amendment Rights with respect to all students; and

IV. Whereas, any protest in the form of sleeping, camping out, or habitation, whether real or symbolic, on a university campus inhibits the liberty of all students to freely use the enti~e campus, and to exercise their individual First Amendment rights; and

V. Whereas, the Senate of the University of Georgia Student
Government Association does not and will not recognize
and/or support any protest in the form of sleeping,
camping out, or habitation, whether real or symbolic, on
the university campus;

VI. Be It Resolved, that the Senate of the University of Georgia Student Government Association recommends to the University Council of the University of Georgia that it should hereafter ban all protests in the form of sleeping, camping out, or habitation, whether real or symbolic, on the campus of the University of Georgia as against the University's policy of guaranteeing equal access and use of the campus to all students.
