WHEREAS, the Student Government Association of the University of Georgia recognizes the importance of free speech and peaceful protesting to democracy;
WHEREAS, the Student Government Association is a governmental body charged with representing the views of all students;
WHEREAS, the Student Government Association has a responsibility to convey the opinions and views of those it represents to the University Council of the University of Georgia when making recommendations to that body.
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Student Government Association recommends the following to the University Council:
* that the University Council set up guidelines for protests;
* that said guidelines do not impede the fundamental right of free speech guaranteed by the Constitution;
* that said guidelines are not structured as to impede the rights of individuals and groups to peacefully protest.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Student Government Association declares the following to be possible options that the University Council should consider:
* all protests in the form of camping out, sleeping or habitation on the campus of the University of Georgia should be limited to specific areas designated by the University Council; or
* all protests in the form of camping out, sleeping or habitation on the campus of the University of Georgia should be limited to specific areas designated by the University Council and such protests should be contingent upon the issuance of a permit. 0,-
