EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

JUNE 4, 1991

THOSE PRESENT WERE WILL COCHRAN, CHRISTINE DAVIDSON, AIMEE ARNOLD, HOLLY THOMAS, ASHLEY DISQUE, AND PETER DURHAM

HOLLY READ A NOTE FROM A STUDENT THAT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT OUR WASTING PAPER. JANIE PRICE WAS ASKED TO RUN OFF FEWER COPIES OF THE MINUTES AND RUN THEM FRONT TO BACK ON RECYCLED PAPER.

ONLY SENATORS THAT WERE ABSENT FROM THE MEETING WILL RECEIVE COPIES OF THE MINUTES IN THEIR BOXES.

HOLLY ASKED ASHLEY TO DISCUSS SENATE BILL # 20. THIS INVOLVES AN INCREASES IN THE STUDENT ACTIVITY FEE. SHE DISCUSSED THE MEETING SGA WAS TO HAVE JUNE 4 AT 5:00 WITH OTHER STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS TO DISCUSS THE INCREASE. ASHLEY PLANS TO HAVE PUBLICITY FOR THE INCREASE IN THE STUDENT NEWSPAPERS IN THE FALL AND HAVE A MEETING WITH STUDENTS. WILSON BRIM OR JOJO ROBBINS WILL WRITE THE ARTICLE FOR THE NEWSPAPER. THE BILL WILL BE VOTED ON IN THE FALL SO THAT THEIR WILL HAVE BEEN PUBLICITY AND A STUDENT MEETING. IF IT PASSES IN THE FALL, THE INCREASE WILL TAKE EFFECT IN THE SPRING. ASHLEY SAID IF WE WAIT UNTIL FALL, IT SHOULD BE PASSED UNANIMOUSLY AND HAVE THE SUPPORT OF STUDENTS AND STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS. HOLLY ASKED HOW IT SHOULD BE HANDLED AT SGA MEETING ON JUNE 5. ASHLEY SAID SHE WOULD NOT HAVE A SECOND READING AT THE MEETING. SHE WILL BRING IT UP IN HER OFFICERS REPORT.

HOLLY SAID WE WILL HAVE ANOTHER READING OF SENATE BILL #21 WHICH IS SAFE CAMPUSES NOW. DUNCAN SAID HE THOUGHT WE SHOULD TAKE A MORE ACTIVE ROLE IN SUPPORTING THIS ORGANIZATION. ASHLEY SAID THAT SHE SPOKE WITH DANA GETZINGER OF THE ORGANIZATION AND TOLD HER THAT SGA WANTS TO TAKE A MORE ACTIVE ROLE. A CABINET POSITION WAS DISCUSSED BUT WAS DECIDED THAT IT WOULD NOT GUARANTEE SGA'S ACTIVE ROLE FROM ONE ADMINISTRATION TO ANOTHER. ASHLEY REPORTED THAT DANA GETZINGER WILL SPEAK AT FRESHMAN ORIENTATION. ASHLEY AND HOLLY DISCUSSED THE WORDING OF THE BILL; SPECIFICALLY THE PART THAT STATES THAT SAFE CAMPUSES NOW IS AN INDEPENDENT ORGANIZATION AFFILIATED WITH STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION. ASHLEY WAS NOT SURE SGA'S NAME WILL BE USED WITH SAFE CAMPUSES NOW AT ORIENTATION. THEY DISCUSSED HAVING JASON ASSAD REPRESENT SGA AT ORIENTATION, SINCE HE IS ALREADY INVOLVED IN SAFE CAMPUSES NOW. DUNCAN SAID HE WILL HAVE A COPY OF THE ORIENTATION SCHEDULE IF ANYONE NEEDED TO SEE IT.
