Internal Affairs Chair Richard Martin reported that the amendments to
the constitution is still being reviewed by the committee.
Under Old Business:
The issue of expulsions was discussed. Ashley Disque review the process.
The senators in question will be allowed to vote in the matter. A motion was
made and seconded to allow the senators to vote. Senators Stephanie Ware and
Jason Williams were given an opportunity to address the senate on their own
behalf.
Stephanie Ware spoke first. She listed the reasons for her absences and
reviewed her work on the senate.
Jason Williams spoke on his behalf. He stated the reasons for his
absences and reviewed his work on the senate.
There was a motion for discussion and approved.
Andrew Vanlandingham explained the reasons for the procedures that
are being taken according to the constitution. Greg Bell asked the senate to
vote to keep the senators on the Senate. Alex Panos spoke on behalf Stephanie
Ware. Jason Bennett spoke against the two absence rule in the Constitution.
James Burroughs spoke on behalf of the rule and suggested that the policy
should have been enforced earlier during the year. Richard Martin spoke
about the question of enforcement. Jay read the constitution to the senate and
reminded that each senator swore to uphold the rule dictated by the
constitution. The senate voted to allow the senators to remain on the Senate.
Nominees for the Elections Subcommittee were read. Senator
Vanlandingham made a motion to allow members of the committee to serve and
assist with campaigns during the election. Russ Willard spoke to ask the senate
to vote down the motion to encourage impartiality concerning committee
business. Mr. Cochran also encourage the senate to think of the committees
impartiality in voting for the motion. Chris Grant also suggested that
impartiality be maintained by the committee. Senator Vanlandingham
explained that the motion will allow a decision to be made, either for allowing
or not allowing members of the committee to serve on a campaign. The senate
voted down the motion to allow committee members to serve on the campaigns.
The above motion reduced the nominees of the committee. The members
confirmed by the senate include- Chris Grant, Victoria Young, Andy
Vanlandingham, Stephanie Ware, Holly Harrelson, Blake White, and David
Douglas.
Under Announcements:
Victoria Young asked the senate to call the General Committee Members
that they agreed to contact.
Andy Vanlandingham asked for reports for all projects done by
individual members on the senate for records.
Lynn Sullivan announced that Arch Society applications are available.
John Bradberry announce the Safe Campuses Now Benefit at the Sugar
Bowl.
Mr. Cochran announce the applications for University Council are
available.
Andy Vanlandingham thanked the student members of the allocations
committee for their attendance and interest.
