History

The Freshman Board was created in the fall of 1996 in order to give the freshmen of the University of Georgia an organized voice in Student Government. The Student Government Association (SGA) found that it was necessary to hear the freshman point of view in order to better represent the entire University.

The purpose of the Freshman Board is to promote new leaders for the fature- of the Student Government Association of the University of Georgia. The Freshman Board represents, guides, and assists freshmen at UGA by acting as a direct liaison to SGA. The members of Freshman Board are expected to attend SGA Committee and Senate meetings, in addition to holding weekly Board meetings prior to SGA Committees.

Application & Selection

The membership of the Freshman Board shall be comprised of first year students at the University of Georgia. All members are required to be full time students and must maintain a 2.25 GPA. A minimum of nine members and no more than fifteen members shall be chosen.

The selection process will occur in two rounds. The first round will consist of the applications and essay. Students will be judged by their past leadership experiences, high school GPA and essay. All students will receive a letter notifying them if they will proceed to the second round. The second round will consist of a 10- 15 minute interview with the members of the Freshman Board Selection Committee. Individual interviews will be held September 22, 23 and 24 from 4:00 - 9:00 pm. All interested freshmen should plan to be available at these time before applying for Freshman Board. Final committee selection will be based on past leadership experiences, high school GPA, interview, and essay. All students will be notified of their final status through the mail._

All applications are due in Room 151 Tate Student Center by 12 noon, Thursday, September 17, 1998.
