Whereas, the Student Government Association has been made aware that more student   advocacy and support for the new Women’s Studies major will aid in the passage   of such.

Whereas, the Student Government Association has further been made aware that a    substantial percentage of students have expressed a serious academic interest in   such a major.

Whereas,  the academic needs and wants of students on this campus should be met within   reason by the University of Georgia.

SGA SUPPORT FOR UNIVERSITY COUNCIL EDUCATIONAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE PROPOSAL FOR POLICY ON MANDATORY ASSIGNMENTS, TESTS, AND QUIZZES DURING READING DAYS AND THE FINAL TWO DAYS OF CLASS

THE STUDENT BODY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA THROUGH ITS ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:

Whereas, the Student Government Association has been made aware that professors often    give mandatory assignments, tests, and quizzes during reading days and the final   two days of class;

Whereas, the Student Government Association finds the administration of such assignments   and tests on reading days and the final two days of class to be an undue burden on   students;

Whereas, the administration of assignments so late in the semester does not give students    the chance to see their grades and students are not able to obtain feedback from    their professors; therefore, they do not know how they performed on the assignment and   the learning process is frustrated;

Whereas,  the Educational Affairs Committee of the University Council is considering a proposal   that professors not give mandatory assignments, tests, and quizzes during reading days   and the final two days of class;

Whereas, the Academic Affairs Committee of the Student Government Association finds great   merit in this proposal and finds that it will greatly benefit the student body of the   University of Georgia;

SGA (12-08)
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED THAT:
The Student Government Association on behalf of the student body will draft a letter expressing its support for and endorsement of the proposal of the Educational Affairs Committee of the University Council on mandatory assignments, tests, and quizzes during reading days and the final two days of class.  The letter will be sent immediately to Dr. William Barstow, Chair of the Executive Committee of University Council; Paul M. Kurtz, Chair of the Educational Affairs Committee of University Council; President Michael Adams; and Dr. Karen Holbrook, Provost.  Further, the Academic Affairs Committee will send a representative to the April 29 meeting of the University Council for the presentation of the proposal.
