Dear Dr. Holbrook,

I hope that UGA has welcomed you well.

I wish to present an idea that might improve our retention rates for students.  As I understand it, currently 40% of our student body never graduates.

While sitting on the Tate Fee Committee, I listened to a presentation by a minority services administrator on their mentoring program.  Under their program, every minority student receives a mentor.  The program seemed to be very effective.  Although the administrator from minority services did not keep figures on student retention, her estimates for decreasing minority student attrition were promising.

I would like to form a mentor program for all entering freshmen.  I believe that a mentor program will lower student attrition, and increase student involvement.

Is this something your office would be interested in pursuing? Â
